Whether you are new to the role of science subject leader or have been the leader for a couple of years, you will be supported to bring about change at a whole school level. You will receive guidance, advice and support to help you understand the role of the subject leader and find out about science in your school. Mapped to the NPQLT framework, the course will provide a solid foundation for those wishing to continue their leadership journey further.
The course explores 5 key themes: what is science like in my school, essential skills for leading primary science, assessment for learning, leading teaching and learning and raising the profile of science. Throughout the course, you will also be provided with the skills and knowledge development to allow you to reflect on and consolidate your role.
Access to a self-paced, online assessment course is also included. This will support you to further develop effective assessment strategies for improving children’s progress in primary science.

You should have completed FD101 before completing this course.
This course will enable participants to understand more about STEM Learning, our programmes and our expectations. We will cover how our programmes have research and evidence embedded within them and how we maximise impact to those accessing our CPD. We will explain how we support our Professional Development Leaders who facilitate our courses through the provision of course materials and how these can used to plan delivery. The STEM Learning processes of the Impact Toolkit and STEM Certificates will also be covered to ensure that, as course deliverers, you will be able to encourage participants to engage with these systems.

This course is for teachers and other educational consultants who are undertaking Stage 1 of the Professional Development Leader Development Programme and who wish to become accredited with CPD Quality Mark
You should have completed FD101 and FD102 before completing this course.
This course looks at what can help make science CPD as effective as possible, with some practical guidance for science staff. It starts by exploring what the evidence suggests and then looks at how this can be put into practice. The whole process of running a course is considered: starting at the planning phase as outcomes are written; examining the sort of activities (including assessment) that could be part of the CPD itself; and finishing with techniques to support participants post-course. It will also examine why and how we should be involving science practical work in our science CPD, and what we can do to improve engagement from all staff.
